Welcome!
Hi there, and welcome to the very first newsletter from the Food + Travel Edit. This edition is not like the full newsletter you will become used to over the following weeks and months (the first of those will arrive tomorrow), but rather just a short missive to welcome you to what I hope will be an informative and engaging community of fellow travellers and diners.
The idea of the Food + Travel Edit is for me to bring you stories that you won’t be able to read anywhere else. These are stories that maybe aren’t suitable for my work in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, or other outlets I write for: they’re insider takes, thought-provoking essays, in-depth feature stories, reviews and recommendations for restaurants from around the world, and even the odd recipe to recreate their greatness.
And in case you were wondering, there is no AI involved. This is completely original work, written by me, featuring photos and videos taken by me, all produced from my little desk in my house in the Central Coast of NSW.
The Food + Travel Edit is a weekly newsletter that will include two stories, both of which, to begin with at least, will be free to anyone who cares to read. Paid subscriptions are also available if you would like to support me, and in a few months one of my weekly stories will go behind this paywall. These subscriptions are a very small fee – just $A5 a month, or $A50 for a whole year – and with that you will have access to not just all of my travel and food stories, but you can also join the conversation by commenting once you click through to the main website.
You will also be the first to know whenever I launch a new food tour with World Expeditions.

And of course, I would love to hear from you about the sorts of stories and content you would like to read here. If you have suggestions, comments or feedback at any time, you can simply hit “reply” on the newsletter to reach me directly, or if you’re a paid subscriber you can comment on the stories themselves and I will respond.
I can’t wait to share with you a whole world of experiences and knowledge that I haven’t previously had the outlet to publish. I look forward to getting to know you, swapping tips and advice, and sharing more of my expertise as one of Australia’s most experienced, well-travelled and widely read travel writers.
Keep an eye out for the first “real” newsletter, hitting your inbox tomorrow. And of course, if you would like to support me, hit the subscribe button below and sign up to a paid subscription. Your backing means a huge amount, and makes this all possible.
Ben
